What is ExecROM?

ExecROM is a program that allow you to execute ROM files on your MSX1, MSX2, MSX2+ or MSX Turbo R. It can execute 4, 8, 16, 32, 48, 64, 96, 112, 128, 256, 512, 768, 1024 and 2048Kb ROM files.
The ROM files were originally for use on MSX emulators, but with ExecROM you can run them now on your real MSX!
If you want to run MegaROM cartridges or use Game Master I, you will really need a MegaRAM.If you want to use Game Master II, you'll need also a minimum of 128k Memory Mapper in your MSX. But if you only want to run 16k or 32k cartridges, without using Game Master I or II, only a MSX, the MSX-DOS and ExecROM are necessary.

Why ExecROM?

Why using ExecROM? Here are some good reasons:
  • ExecROM runs any type of ROM, normal or MegaROM, with 8k or 16k pages.
  • The loading and execution of ROM files is totally automatic, without needing the user to inform about his MSX type or his configuration.
  • The identification of MegaROM files is automatic, without needing any input from the user. Anyway, it's possible to force a specific mapper in the same way of the fMSX emulator, don't obligating you to re-learn the MegaROM mapper types.
  • ExecROM allow the full utilization of Konami's Game Masters if you have a MegaRAM, for Game Master I, or a minimum of 128k Memory Mapper for Game Master II.
  • ExecROM allow you to utilize patches for infinite lives, immunity, etc, on the ROM files. So, you don't loose your games tricks and hints.
  • ExecROM allow you to utilize a patch file for more elaborated modifications on ROM files.
  • ExecROM allow you to load ROM files that are resident programs, don't being just another "game loader".
  • ExecROM can cheat ROM files, making them detect your MSX as a japanese machine or not. With this you can see secret levels and screens of some games, see in english the programs that display only japanese messages on your Turbo-R or even see in japanese the programs that display only english on your MSX.
  • The MSX1 games running on MSX2 or above in the CoolColors mode, exclusive of ExecROM, have such a incredible visual, becoming much more beautiful and funny.
  • Support to MSXDOS1 and MSXDOS2. Under this one, you can use subdirectories, HD, ZIP drive, CDROM or any other peripheral.
  • Support to BASIC ROM cartridges. You can run original BASIC ROM dumps like any other ROM files. You don't have to convert the contents of the ROM file to a BASIC program to run it.
  • SCC support for all Konami games. Even if you don't have a SCC cartridge piggybacked with your MegaRAM, you can run Konami games with full SCC music.


What's new in ExecROM?

News in ExecROM 1.2c:
  • Added support to 4, 8, 1024 and 2048KB ROMs;
  • Added support for patchfiles with size up to 4GB;
  • Fixed a bug that caused some patchfiles not to work;

  • Added SCC+ detection;
  • Added support to KGC Yie Ar Kung Fu I and II with SCC+ music;
